[ooc: Set several hours after this thing that we started a long friggin time ago. Should have gotten this up sooner.]

It had been a long drive from Smallville to wherever it was they were now. Honestly, Lana hadn't been paying attention. There had been a little talking in the car, but she had mostly listened to whatever conversation was going on, fiddled with her phone or iPod...or watched Sam from the corner of her eye. She couldn't exactly put her finger on it, but there was something very familiar about him, like she'd met him somewhere before. But if she had, she was sure she would have remembered him.

Now they were all settling into their rooms. As she expected, Chloe was wholly set on sharing a room with Dean instead of her. Hopefully there wouldn't be too much noise filtering in from the other side of the wall.

Lana set her bag on one of the beds and sat beside it, starting to pull off her shoes and make herself comfortable.

She slipped her hand in her pockets as well. It wasn't quite the most normal thing for her, but if she were honest with herself, she was starting to get a little nervous. "Well then, I have a question for you: were you dragged into this thing like I was?"

Sam chuckled, looking at the ground with his dimples showing a bit. "Honest answer - yeah. Mainly because dean and I travel together for our job, so I tend to go anywhere he goes anyway."

He looked up at her. "I hope I'm not that big a disappointment."

"Disappointment?" She smiled at him. "Well, for the record I can't be disappointed by someone I didn't know I was going to meet, but it's not like I'm complaining." She looked ahead again. "So what do you guys do anyway?"

"Special projects. I'm a researcher and Dean tends to be more of a physical retriever."

The job description changes every time.

"And that's nice... that you're not disappointed. I mean, I'm more used to people going after my brother. He's more of the loud one."

"Loud is definitely a word I would use," she said, voice full of humor. "Not exactly my type, though."

"His loss, my gain." Sam grinned as the chinese place was in the distance. He pointed it out.

Lana looked where he was pointing. "Guess I don't have to ask if I'm a disappointment."

"Well, when Dean asked me along, I was a bit worried. I mean, I've been around long enough to end up being the co-pilot on a lot of bad dates. The 70 year old grandmother who grabbed my ass took the cake, but yeah. You're no where near a disappointment."

She looked at him in disbelief. "Dean set you up with a horny old lady?" Wow. Sure, some of her past dates had been more deadly, but...wow.

"It was a business function. He had the girl... i had her grandmother. And she tried to take me home."

He shuddered at the memory before opening the door to the place for her.

"You poor thing," she said, her voice lowering a bit as she walked inside. The smell was amazing, but she was still focused on that old lady having her hands all over him. "At least I don't have much to live up to."

"Well, I'm sure I could find you a hot grandpa who'd enjoy grabbing your ass sometime tonight. Then we can share the emotional traumas."

It did smell good, and they were led to a booth in the back.

Lana laughed, though the thought was more than a little disturbing. "I think I'll stick to giant geeks." Oddly enough, that seemed to be her type.

He rubbed the back of his neck lightly, chuckling.

"I can... um... stay at the table and you can get your food first?"

"Yeah, okay."

She was starting to relax a little. Sam was a nice guy, and at least she could take comfort in the fact that they were pretty much in the same boat with this whole thing. Not to mention good-looking and a little on the awkward side.

She came back with two bowls of soup, one egg drop and the other hot and sour.

"Couldn't choose?" Sam asked, making to stand up.

She shook her head. "I never can." At least when it cam to the soup.

"Good thing it's a buffet then." He grinned, then got up to get his own plate. He returned two minutes later with a few dumplings and some sauce, as well as two eggrolls.

She smiled at him as he sat down.

"So, how much exactly do you know about Smallville? I mean, you're a researcher, and I get the idea you enjoy it. You can't tell me you haven't read a few things."

Sam bit his lip a moment, tilting his head to look away as his dimples showed ins his smile. "Alright, maybe i did a bit of research. Saw some of the weird things that happened in your area..."

God, he was so adorable, and she couldn't help but tease. "And yet you and your brother risked being attacked by a rouge metahuman, all for a couple of girls you don't know?"

Sam smirked and chuckled to himself. "We've dealt with worse."

"Really?" She tilted her head. "Because I could tell you some pretty wild stories."

"Want to hear about scarecrow that almost ate my brother?" Sam gave her a you're not going to believe me smirk as he nibbled on a dumpling.

"Or maybe about the painting that had the ghost of a little girl trapped in it who was killing the people who bought it?"

Scarecrow? Ghost? She believed him, alright. After all the things she'd seen, she believed a lot of things. "Are you sure you've never been to Smallville?"
