[ooc: Set several hours after this thing that we started a long friggin time ago. Should have gotten this up sooner.]

It had been a long drive from Smallville to wherever it was they were now. Honestly, Lana hadn't been paying attention. There had been a little talking in the car, but she had mostly listened to whatever conversation was going on, fiddled with her phone or iPod...or watched Sam from the corner of her eye. She couldn't exactly put her finger on it, but there was something very familiar about him, like she'd met him somewhere before. But if she had, she was sure she would have remembered him.

Now they were all settling into their rooms. As she expected, Chloe was wholly set on sharing a room with Dean instead of her. Hopefully there wouldn't be too much noise filtering in from the other side of the wall.

Lana set her bag on one of the beds and sat beside it, starting to pull off her shoes and make herself comfortable.

Lana was contemplating something entirely different. "Sam...how did we go from talking about the strange things of the world to talking about a relationship? I mean...we barely know each other."

"Damned if I know. I was wondering that myself."

"Add that to the long list of weird, I guess."

"Added." Sam sighed. "I'm... gonna get some more food. We can figure this out later, ok?"

She nodded. "Yeah." His absence would give her time to eat a little more, and recover from the oddly intimate conversation they'd somehow gotten themselves into.

Sam got up, getting himself some real food instead of snackers this time, but taking his time. He still had not idea how they had gotten on that topic, or what he really wanted if they choose to continue it.

But he couldn't hide on the food line, so he came back and sat down across from her.

By the time Sam returned, Lana had already finished all her soup. When she looked up at him, she was surprised to feel a small flutter in her chest.

No, she couldn't be falling for him already. Yes, he was her type, yes, they seemed to have a lot of similar life experiences, but she didn't know if she was ready to love again.

Sam wasn't anymore sure, especially because he knew what he was ad how much that could get someone hurt. But he had to admit that he did like Lana. She was nice to talk to and would be the kind of girl he would have had no problem going out with when he was in school.

"I'll eat fast if you want to get out of here," he told her because he wasn't sure if she was one who would get fidgety after a bit.

She shook her head. "I'm going to get a little bit more." She left him and came back a few minutes later with a couple of eggrolls, wantons and a small clump of lo mein.

"So, I've been random. I think it's your turn."

He thought a moment to find something. "Well, let's see. I was a half of a semester away from being accepted into law school on a full ride when I dropped out."

Well, that wasn't something you heard every day.

"Wow." He had to be damn smart for that. "So...why did you drop out?"

"Family issues. Dean needed me to help him, and our Dad had gone MIA so I really couldn't turn him down. Then there was a fire..."

Now he was losing his own appetite and pushed the food around with his fork.

"Your girlfriend..."

She looked down at her plate. "Our lives really aren't good dinner conversation."

"I don't think any of my life really works well for casual conversation."

[manorsuperman]

"Yeah. Me either."

[likely_evil]

"We could create fake lives?" Sam smirked a bit.

[manorsuperman]

She smiled, almost laughed. "So we're spies now?"

[likely_evil]

"If you want that as a part of your fake life... sure, why not?"

[manorsuperman]

This time, she did laugh, or more like a giggle. "I don't know. Maybe, maybe not." She was starting to get her appetite back, so she took a bite of her lo mein. "What about you? How's your fake life?"

"Oh my fake life is fantastic, actually. Just got my second novel published and one of my tv pilots is being shot out in Hollywood. Got to have dinner with Angelina Jolie just the other day."

His smile grew.

"Angelina Jolie?" Her smile was big and bright. "I might be jealous."

"Don't worry, no casting couch. She's got enough little kids running around as it is to risk it." He gave an innocent shrug.

She giggled again, going for the eggroll now. "Probably for the best. I wouldn't want to have to hurt her," she said playfully.

"So you're a possessive, jealous type in this fake life. I see," he chuckled.

"Well, I've found that you can get away with things like that in fake lives."
