The library was really the only place Lana felt comfortable staying for more than a few minutes. She could only stand to be in isolation for so long, but there was no way she was going to risk mutating anyone any more than she had to. It was perfect: one of the more quiet places in New York, not too crowded, and the desk where she was seated was surrounded at nearly every side with books. She'd always enjoyed reading and just the smell of the room was comforting.

Comfort was what she needed now. Stealing Lex's power suit had to be the stupidest thing she'd ever done in her life. She should have known it was all too easy. He let all that information leak on purpose, put it just far enough out of reach that she wouldn't think twice. He knew exactly what she'd do with that information, how worthless she'd felt standing next to the tower of morality that was Clark Kent. She'd wanted to change all that, to find some way to match that, and she thought she'd found the way to do it, but Lex just used it all to his advantage. Two birds with one stone; a way to bring them back together only to rip them apart.

She could blame Lex all she wanted, but she knew the truth. The choices were hers and she made all the wrong ones. Maybe Lex was right about her. Maybe she really was just like him.

"I've actually been there. Back then, i was actually fine with it. But now, I don't think I could."

She just looked at him for a second, expression teetering on the sad side of neutral, then averted her gaze and sipped her coffee. She wasn't sure what to think of what he just said, or if she'd even heard all of it. She missed Clark, she missed Chloe, and she was distracted by all the things that could happen by just sitting here, not to mention her social skills had been out of practice for a few months now. She was aware enough to know she was probably acting strange—but too concerned with other things to care all that much.

Sam sighed and shook his head. "How about a different topic?"

"I'm sorry," she mumbled, without looking back at him. "I know I'm being weird."

"Yeah, but being weird isn't bad." Sam chuckled a bit to make her relax a bit. "I'm used to weird."

[manorsuperman]

"Not my kind of weird." Surely not her kind of weird.

"Maybe not, but I can probably come close to topping it."

[manorsuperman]

She looked back at him this time, and somehow, she believed him.

"How?"

"Just seen things people won't believe. Think I'm crazy when I tell them about it."

She looked at him a moment, then looked down at her coffee again.

"I wouldn't think you were crazy..."

Sam watched her a moment, then sat back. "You believe in demons? Ghosts? Werewolves, vampires... all those bad things in the horror movies?"

His questions actually made her smile a little, though she couldn't explain why. She nodded. "Are mutants and aliens included on this list, too?" It was an honest question, not a mocking one.

"Not like ET or the X-Men... I've never seen one of them before."

The others? Yeah. Kinda of a lot.

She nodded again, understanding what he was saying, or not saying as the case might be.

"I have."

"Really?"

[manorsuperman]

"Yeah. Not like ET. More like...Spock, without the ears. Pretty human looking."

Sam tilted his head, not totally disbelieving her, but aliens? Then again, the same really could be said for what he hunted.

"So when did you learn they existed?"

[manorsuperman]

"Aliens?" She had to think that one over for a second. "Since about the time I graduated high school. There was a meteor shower..." She trailed off, wondering how far she should go into it, or if she should even be going into it.
