Who I Am Hates Who I've Been :: RP for

The library was really the only place Lana felt comfortable staying for more than a few minutes. She could only stand to be in isolation for so long, but there was no way she was going to risk mutating anyone any more than she had to. It was perfect: one of the more quiet places in New York, not too crowded, and the desk where she was seated was surrounded at nearly every side with books. She'd always enjoyed reading and just the smell of the room was comforting.
Comfort was what she needed now. Stealing Lex's power suit had to be the stupidest thing she'd ever done in her life. She should have known it was all too easy. He let all that information leak on purpose, put it just far enough out of reach that she wouldn't think twice. He knew exactly what she'd do with that information, how worthless she'd felt standing next to the tower of morality that was Clark Kent. She'd wanted to change all that, to find some way to match that, and she thought she'd found the way to do it, but Lex just used it all to his advantage. Two birds with one stone; a way to bring them back together only to rip them apart.
She could blame Lex all she wanted, but she knew the truth. The choices were hers and she made all the wrong ones. Maybe Lex was right about her. Maybe she really was just like him.

Instead he was in the biggest library on the east coast that wasn't on a college campus, and was deep in the mythology section. He was trying to see if he could reverse what he had done. If there was hope for him.
If he could stop the pain and the hunger he felt deep inside that was barely on the right side of human.

Still, she watched him, a bit amazed at the similarities: the height, the build, the little bit of flannel peeking from underneath his jacket. She had the urge to approach him, but she didn't. She was the last thing he needed.

Then he saw her, watching him. Small, delicate... very pretty. Was her interest in him purely human attraction, or something more? He knew he could make the first move and get the answer quickly, but he also wasn't sure he wanted company.
At least, company that would be nice and gentle and not what he deserved. not after... yeah.
He lowered his head back into the book, thinking she might just go away.

She didn't. She just sat there, still watching, still chewing on her lip. Still stupid.

Yeah, so not smooth.

She ducked her head, blushing furiously. "No, I--no...I'm sorry. You just--" She closed her eyes, determined not to let herself get emotional. Her voice was quieter when she spoke again. "You remind me of someone I knew."

"It's alright. I don't... I just don't usually have people staring at me. Didn't mean to snap."

She was starting to get uncomfortable. It was one thing when she was just watching. It was another now that they were talking. Talking meant he might move closer, and she didn't want that.
Well...not...really?

"Nice meeting you," he said as he started to leave.

She shot up out of her chair. "No!"
Okay, maybe that was a little loud for a library.
She was blushing again. "Um...no...coffee would be great."
As long as there wasn't any physical contact, it would be okay. Right?
no subject
"Ok, then. Let's go. I think there's one across the street."

She was beautiful... small and delicate and he could see her in another time being someone he would really enjoy getting to know. But right now he couldn't afford letting anyone that close.

"So... you from around here?"
Yeah, smooth Sam. Real smooth.
no subject
"Smallville, Kansas."
Hopefully he wouldn't know it.

Funny they were from the same state, though. What were the odds.

"So why aren't you there now?"
no subject
"It's a long story."
As soon as the sentence left her mouth she looked down again and quickly went inside.
