[ooc: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH! Which should be obvious, but maybe not. Speculation for the Smallville season finale.]
"No..."
The word was barely a whisper and her vision blurred with tears to the point that she couldn't see her fiancé as more than a blob of smeared colors.
"I'm so sorry..."
"No!" She shook her head and crumbled into him. "No, he can't be! He's not supposed to..."
She couldn't bring her self to say it, because it just couldn't be true.
Clark Kent wasn't supposed to die.
She felt Sam's arms wrap tightly around her, holding her as she wept.
They stayed that way for a long time, until she slowly started to calm.
When she pulled back to look at him, he cupped her face in his hands and wiped the wetness away with his thumbs.
"I know he meant a lot to you..."
"It's not just that," she said as she shook her head. "Not even mainly that...he just..." She bit her lip and her voice returned to a whisper. "He was supposed to save the world..."
A moment of silence.
"Lana...he did..."
"No..."
