All those years, she hadn't understood why. Chloe knew about Clark before she had, and Pete before that. Even Pete hadn't known until he was sixteen, and only because he found Clark's ship. It was that way with most of the people he told. They knew, he decided to just come clean.
She understood now.
Elijah might be the product of the biggest mistake of her life, but he was everything to her. That boy was her whole world. He might be nearly invincible, but mess with him, try to exploit him in any way? You just pissed off the wrong mother.
