Sam had stopped calling when he was in Smallville, not that he'd ever really done so in the first place. He would just randomly turn up, waiting on her porch after work, at the stables when she went to ride, in her office wearing nothing but boots and a trench coat. Sometimes he just let himself in and crawl into bed with her. This time, however, he was waiting for her in that bed, and it didn't take her very long to strip down and join him.
After they had reacquainted themselves with one another and resting in each others arms, Lana glanced up at him and smiled.
"Have you ever noticed it takes about thirty minutes or less for us to find our way into bed whenever we see each other?"
His lips turned up just slightly. "It's not always your bed. Sometimes it's a wall or a chair...your desk."
"You're not allowed to talk about my desk when I'm too tired to move."
He just laughed. Lana wanted to swat at him, but she really was that tired. Instead, she closed her eyes and curled into him just a bit more. She felt his arms tighten around her as he pressed a kiss to her head.
"I'm glad you're here," she said softly.
"Yeah," he answered as he stroked her hair, "me too."
"It's like you know when I need you the most. How do you do that?"
She could hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. "Just lucky, I guess."
Lana kissed the closest patch of skin. "Soulmate," she mumbled.
If he said anything in return, it didn't register. The next thing she knew it was morning and Sam was checking the salt line at the window.
