[ooc: AU...well...the whole series. You'll see what I mean.]

"You have a visitor, Miss Lang."

The young woman looked up to find the last person she wanted to see standing next to the woman she thought to be her secretary. She looked back down at her papers covered in odd symbols.

"Go away, Lex."

Lex nodded to the woman as she left before carefully sinking into the seat across from her.

"Lana...I know you think I've done horrible things to you, so I understand why you don't want to see me."

She didn't look up. "Leave before I call security."

He heaved a heavy sigh. "You're not at ISIS, Lana. You're in Belle Reve Sanitarium. You've been here since you were fifteen."

Not this again. He was always saying things like this. She couldn't help but raise her eyes to glare. "I'm not crazy."

Lex looked at her, face full of what could be concern, but she didn't buy it. "You just haven't learned to cope with your parents' death. Look." He put his hand on one of her papers. "These aren't the language of a dead alien civilization. They're just ancient symbols from the Kawatche tribe, part of their legend, the one you loved so much."

She shook her head. "No."

"Your parents didn't die in a meteor shower. They died in a car accident." He tried to take her hand, but she pulled it away. "I wish you would let yourself see the truth, like I did, remember? Remember how it was before I was released? We can be like that again. We can be happy together."

No, he was lying. He was always lying, and she hated him for it. "No. No, we can't, Lex."

He reached for her hand again. "Lana...I love you. Please tell me you believe that."

She looked him straight in the eye, face eerily calm, and stared at him for a few seconds before answering. "You're not capable of love."

Tears stung at the man's eyes, but he wasn't letting them spill over to run down his face. He just nodded as he looked away.

"Okay." He stood again. "I'll be back to visit next week. Hopefully you'll be more open to believing me next time." He bent down to kiss her forehead gently before walking away.

He didn't really think he could convince her, did he? That if he just kept coming to see her that somehow she'd fall into his arms again? No, that would never happen. She was tired of believing his lies.
